Change on the Horizon
An adventure is imminent. What seemed to be implausible ideas sparked a journey of preparation, and over the last five years the notion of early retirement by age fifty and travelling the country in an RV is nearly a reality.
“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.”
– Colin Powell, American Statesman and Retired Four-Star General
Living fulltime in an RV is now clearly on the horizon. Downsizing and embracing a degree of minimalism is nearly complete, enabling my move from a two story 3,000 square foot home into a fifth wheel travel trailer encompassing all of about 400 square feet.
Preparations on the house included a fresh coat of paint and new carpet throughout. My house will be on the market as of May 1, 2018 and the journey will leap into motion as soon as it sells. Yes, I am selling my house to live and travel in an RV.
The activities, self-education and paradigm shifts over the last five years evolved into a quest – an arduous effort to make my dream a reality.
My two-week trial run volunteering with the Habitat for Humanity RV Care-A-Vanner program was a success and just the practical confidence I needed for the final push of these last few months.
